Yoga and the Enneagram

“Imagine you are lost in the wilderness and trying to find your way out. You may have a map to help you navigate, but you won’t go far if you are too weak or tired. Or you have plenty of energy, strength and supplies but no map so you don’t know where to go. Life is often like that – you know you want change, but something holds you back. Either you aren’t clear about your new direction or you know the direction, but you just don’t move towards the change you want.” from Headstart for Happiness by Lynn Roulo.

These sessions combine the map of the Enneagram System of Personality and “The strength, energy and supplies of yoga to help you out of the wilderness.” These are time-tested tools that assist you on your journey of self-discovery and your connection with the Divine.

“If we could look into each other’s hearts and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance and care.” – Marvin J. Ashton.

Vernon presents the Enneagram as a tool for this compassion. We will explore the behavior of others and a context for your own behavior.

Compassion is said to be the highest tenant of Yoga: Above all else, we strive to be a vessel for compassion, loving our selves and radiating that love and compassion to others. When stressed, we can apply specific yoga tools and techniques that may work for our particular type of stress that arises due to a disconnection from a specific energy center in order to soothe our system and reestablish a feeling of connection and wholeness.

Jenn’s approach is to help you find and use your own tools “such as awareness of movement, breath, sensation and thought to move beyond this denser place of mental clutter, belief, judgment and opinion to a deeper, more peaceful and lighter sense of ‘I’. It is from this place where we learn to navigate through our personal selves in a more authentic way, birthing our ‘Yes’, and generously sharing this authenticity in our community.
